Grandparents raising grandchildren in the St. Leo Refugee Community During the Pandemic Recession of 2020-2021.
St. Leo service to Burundi and Guatemala refugees during the pandemic. A case study will be provided on how these refugees at St. Leo Parish survived the pandemic and recession. Examples will include one grandmother whose grandchild is living with her because her mother need to work and how some parents are switching shifts to cover childcare so that both parents can work. Additionally, we will address how adult children assume responsibility for their aged parents’ health care. Especially, when they have difficulty navigating the health care system themselves and trying to convince their parent of the value of being vaccinated.
